US Labor Department announces meeting of advisory board subcommittee focused on health of nuclear weapons workers

Subcommittee to discuss scope of issues, establish initial work plan

WHAT: The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs will hold a teleconference meeting of the Subcommittee on Evidentiary Requirements for Part B Lung Disease to the Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health for the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.

WHEN: Wed., June 29, 2016
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT

WHERE: Dial-in number available on the advisory board website at least three days prior to the meeting.

AGENDA: The subcommittee’s agenda includes defining the issues and scope of its topic area, such as evidence related to lung conditions, defining its data and informational needs and drafting an initial work plan with a timetable. Interested parties should submit written comments to the subcommittee at EnergyAdvisoryBoard@dol.gov by June 22, 2016.

BACKGROUND: The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to nuclear weapons workers diagnosed with medical conditions caused by their exposure to toxic substances at covered nuclear facilities. Executive Order 13699 directed the department to establish the advisory board. The board will advise the secretary on technical aspects of the EEOICPA.

The subcommittee will provide advice to the board on the evidentiary requirements for claims related to lung disease under subtitle B of the EEOICPA.
